Inktober 2015, Day 26: Re-animator

Yay, H.P. Lovecraft is not to be forgotten from any project that involves the word “horror”. Sure Bram Stoker, Mary Shelley and buddies are pretty scary, and even Stephen King. But if you want something that really drives you insane with fear, well, Lovecraft is your man. While Re-animator doesn’t involve as many tentacles as a regular Lovecraft story does, it is still a decent story, although many feel it is the worst one. Which is why it’s interesting that he movie is so far maybe the best adaptation of Lovecraftian work into cinema. That’s not saying much, the others are nothing to write home about. Maybe the images that Lovecraft was able to paint in your minds eye are too difficult to render unto reality. It is hard to make the horrifying visuals that your imagination creates, equally terrible for others. Re-animator is worth the watch though. I just realized there’s a alarmingly large number of movies from 1985 on the horror field. I guess the 80’s were so happy that people needed to get their kicks from the other spectrum of emotions. I’ll revisit Lovecraft later in a few days, Cthulhu is still in the pipeline…
